These are stories about people drawing closer to those with cognitive disabilities and, in the process, being reawakened to a life of greater love.
Stephen Post's article in the Alzheimer's Reading Room, entitled Compassionate Care, speaks to the essence of caring for "deeply forgetful" people, reinforcing the value that the person with dementia has through compassion, attention, concern and tenderness. And a smile.
I like this article because what Stephen Post talks about is also the essence of Love, Loss, and Laughter, that love and laughter are possible even in the midst of loss. However, it's what we choose to focus on that is reinforced and what we take away from the experience.
